The Maine Department of Labor has made the youth work-permit application available online in time for the summer hiring season. All minors under the age of 16 must have a work permit before they start a job, whether or not they attend school.

"Maine's employers, parents and teenagers look to summer employment as a solution to their needs," said Governor Paul R. LePage. "Summer jobsgive teens insight into possible careers and teach the power of earning money.  Employers look to fill gaps in their workforce during the busy summer season.  Making the permitting system a bit easier helps everyone."

For teens under the age of 16, restrictions limit the types of jobs and the hours they can work.  Minors cannot work jobs considered...

How about a home business?

A government small business guidance site shows what they call seven inspiring home business ideas, pointing toward several highly-successful business that started at home – Martha Stewart, Baby Einstein, etc. They list Freelancing, Virtual Assistant, Blogging, Child Day Care, Home-based Bakery or Food Service,  and Online Marketplace. Whoop de doo.

Considering the overcrowding in those market spaces, you’re looking at the same problems with a house-based enterprise as anything else, except lower capital costs, no building. But you will still need a place to back and ship, boxes , maybe a commercial kitchen, administrative software, child care licenses, tax preparation, customer service techniques,...

Damariscotta-based MysteriousDestinationsMagazine.com covers mysteries throughout North America and the Caribbean, featuring a new location in each monthly edition. A global climate expert from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will share the 2013 Atlantic Hurricane Season forecast during a free webinar Tuesday, May 28 hosted by SBA and Agility Recovery. After the weather discussion, disaster preparedness tips will be presented by Agility.
 
Dr. Gerry Bell has been the lead scientist of NOAA's Long-Range Hurricane Outlook Team since 1998. He was instrumental in developing NOAA's Atlantic and East Pacific hurricane activity outlook, and has done weather analysis on CNN and The Weather Channel.
