The days are warmer, and the snow is melting. Now that it’s actually starting to feel like spring, we’re gearing up for Maine’s fifth season: Mud Season.

Mud Season is the 4-6 weeks between winter and spring, when the melting snow softens the ground and signs of spring start to show. It’s that period when the weather isn’t quite sure what it’s supposed to do. In reality, this is a pretty difficult season to get through, which is why we have listed some tips for surviving Mud Season in Maine:

• Dress in layers. Seriously, there’s no telling what the weather’s going to do throughout the day.
• Whenever you go outside, run directly to your destination to avoid getting bit by black flies....

If you're a Leaf Peeper (and proud to say it), cheer up. You have more time to see the best fall foliage here in the Camden Hills and Maine's Midcoast. Here in the Camden-Rockland, region, nature's paintbrush is still decorating many of our maple, beech, and other trees, punctuated by the deep green of spruce and pine.
