Exhibits to open in Keeper’s House at Owls Head Light

In May, the Keeper’s House at Owls Head Light will become the new home of the American Lighthouse Foundation. “We’ve had the tower open for the last five years, and the question visitors always asked was if they could get inside the house. This past fall the Coast Guard asked if we’d be interested in the house,” says Bob Trapani Jr., executive director. “It’s a great place to tie in our mission at a light station.”

The first floor will be open to the public as an educational interpretive center. Visitors will be able to learn not...

The days are warmer, and the snow is melting. Now that it’s actually starting to feel like spring, we’re gearing up for Maine’s fifth season: Mud Season.

Mud Season is the 4-6 weeks between winter and spring, when the melting snow softens the ground and signs of spring start to show. It’s that period when the weather isn’t quite sure what it’s supposed to do. In reality, this is a pretty difficult season to get through, which is why we have listed some tips for surviving Mud Season in Maine:

The January/February issue of Bangor Metro features Camden in an article that offers a nicely balanced blend of the town's history and attractions as well as economic development. You can read it in PDF form here.

Camden and the Midcoast have now had a few days to return to normal after our annual intellectual and inspirational massage that is Pop!Tech. From the economic boost from hundreds of visitors to the delight and wonder of the Bang Bang Boom balloons on the Village Green and the Umbrella Project in the Amphitheatre, our area benefits in many ways. So when curator and executive director Andrew Zolli closed the conference by expressing his gratitude to speakers, sponsors, staff, attendees, volunteers, and our local community, I instantly thought, "No, Andrew .... thank you!"

If you're a Leaf Peeper (and proud to say it), cheer up. You have more time to see the best fall foliage here in the Camden Hills and Maine's Midcoast. Here in the Camden-Rockland, region, nature's paintbrush is still decorating many of our maple, beech, and other trees, punctuated by the deep green of spruce and pine.

Check the state web page www.mainefoliage.com to see the progress. Although inland Maine is at peak or past it, much of our area is still termed High color. So if you haven't visiited us yet, plan a trip for this weekend! Our shops and restaurants are open and some of our daysailers are still running through next week. And on Sunday, Oct. 14 you can see the sea--and the glorious landscape--from a...

Should someone snap a photo of the code with a phone or mobile device loaded with the right software, a mobile website will open on their device showing them both the history of the spot where they are standing and contemporary information on their exact location. The Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber’s website (at either www.mainedreamvacation.comor www.penbaychamber.com) is now available in a new version optimized for viewing and navigation on mobile devices.

The mobile version of the site uses the same powerful database as the full site to provide users with the information they are looking for, be it a specific member or members in a given business category. The site will return search results based on geographic proximity (giving users the businesses closest to them first) and by user selected category. The site also makes it easy for travelers to locate lodging, dining, or other businesses and to dial or email them from...
